The Missouri State University Counseling Center offers training opportunities for
graduate students enrolled in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Clinical
Psychology programs. Trainees provide clinical and outreach services as appropriate
to their academic programs and under the guidance of Counseling Center leadership.
Supervision and Training
All clinical trainees are supervised by licensed clinicians within the Counseling
Center. Training is coordinated by the Counseling Center Training Committee and overseen
by the Assistant Director responsible for the training program.
One training opportunity available within the Counseling Center is a Graduate Assistantship
(GA). This is a paid position that includes tuition coverage and a monthly stipend.
Graduate Assistantships are offered based on availability and are advertised through
the Graduate College. GA appointments are for one academic year and may be renewed
for a second year.
The Counseling Center also offers practicum and internship placements for students interested in gaining experience in a university counseling center and
working with college student populations. Practicum and internship trainees are typically
enrolled in a practicum or internship course within their graduate program, often
during the final stages of their academic training. The duration and requirements
of these positions are determined by the student’s academic program.
Individuals interested in training opportunities at the Missouri State University
Counseling Center are encouraged to complete this form.
